Overview

Markha Stok Kangri Tour Package Itinerary : – Delhi – Leh – Phyang – Spituk – Gompas – Hemis – Thiksey – Shey – Shang Sumdo – Kangmarula Base – Nimaling – Thachungtse – Hunker – Markha – Skiu – Shingo La – Lartsa – Stok La – Doksar – Base Camp – Stok – Lamayuru – Alchi – Delhi

The most famous and easily accessible is the Stok Kangri at 6140 meters. We continue towards the spectacular scenery of the Stok Range, where we begin our ascent. The tough, but optional and non-technical climb provides stunning views extending across Ladakh Himalayas. It involves crossing the high pass of Kongmaru La (5274 mts) and walking on the banks of the Markha River crossing it a few times.  at the head of this valley dominates the skyline as we get higher up the valley and the view towards the Zanskar range from the Kongamaru La is simply mesmerizing. It is a perfect combination of Trans Himalayan Landscapes with Ladakhi villages.

ARRIVE DELHI

Arrive Delhi & transfer to Domestic Airport to catch a flight to Leh.

DELHI - LEH

Departure Delhi early morning by flight to Leh, it will take about 1hrs 20 min. journey on arrival transfer to hotel, rest day in hotel for acclimatization.

LEH VISIT: Phyang / Spituk Gompas.

Morning after breakfast visit PHYANG: Phyang monastery founded in the 15th century is also called Tashi Chosang, the first established Dingung teachings in Ladakh. The festival of Phyang Monastery is held every year from 17th to 19th of the one month. After Phyang visited SPITUK Monastery, established in the 11th century, was named by a scholarly translator Rinchen Zangpo as Spituk. Spituk Monastery is famous for its wide and varied collections of ancient masks, icons, antique arms and numerous Thangkas. The Buddhist Monastery is attracted by many tourists during Spituk Gustor. Return for lunch. Noon, visit Stok Palace + walk down from Stok on foot. Free time to explore the local bazaar. Dinner / Overnight at hotel.

LEH VISIT: Hemis, Thiksey, Shey

Morning after breakfast visit HEMIS MONASTERY: It is a Drukpa Lineage re- established by Ladakhi king Sengge Namgyal. The annual Hemis festival honouring Padma sambhava is held here in early June. After a small walk above the monastery. Transfer to Thiksey village visit THIKSEY GOMPA Built some 600 years ago, Thiksey monastery consists of 12 levels ascending a hillside .The Gompa contains 10 temples; below the monastery itself are chapels and houses of monks. Also part of a new temple in Gompa containing a large Buddha statue. The H.H. Dalai Lama constructed this Buddha, 15 meters tall, in 1980 during a visit to Thiksey. Lunch at a local restaurant in Thiksey. After lunch visit SHEY MONASTERY, an erstwhile Royal residence up to the 16th century, is located at a small village Shey near Leh on the banks of Indus River and is managed by Buddhists Monks from Hemis Monastery. The prime attraction of the monastery is the blue haired Maitreya Buddha of 17.5 m high, which is made with copper and brass and also decorated beautifully with studs of precious stones. Evening back to the hotel. Dinner / Overnight at hotel.

LEH – HEMIS – SHANG SUMDO, (3 hours Trek)

After breakfast drive Leh – Hemis visit Monastery & trek start from village of Hemis, go down towards Martsellang, then follow a track suitable for motor traffic which was under construction in 1985. Go up a valley which is fairly marrow in places, then walk along the riverbed as far as Shang (Sumdo). Good campsite near a house. Several rivers to cross.

SHANG SUMDO - KANGMARULA BASE (7 HOURS TREK)

Above the village, take a path along the slope through red rock. Then, back down to the riverbeds. From Chukirmo on, the track leads onto gorges. On two stretches horses must be unloaded. Several rivers to cross. Leave the gorges and go up into the pass.

KANGMARULA BASE – NIMALING

From the camp, a steep ascent as far as Kongmaru La (5150m). From the pass, there is a beautiful view of the northern face of the Kang Yaze (6400m). Easy descent to the summer pasture of Nimaling (4700m), one of the most beautiful high valleys in Ladakh.

NIMALING - THACHUNGTSE (Hunker)

Nimaling to Thachungtse 4-5 hrs trek to reach Thachungtse, enroute you can see thousands of sheep, yaks, graze etc. during the summer month, you will reach via Hunker.

THACHUNGTSE (HUNKER) – MARKHA

Morning after breakfast, we trek to Markha and cross to Kongmaru La, after which we will see our first view of Mt. Kang Yatse (6400m), after leaving the village of Umlung, we will reach Markha valley trail that continues past old stone-mills, a ruined castle and the auspicious monastery of Techa, which proudly perches upon a cliff that looms above Markha.

MARKHA – SKIU (06 – 07 hrs trek)

The trail passes through quite lush riverside vegetation. En route, we come across more derelict monasteries, some well-maintained shortens and at least one good example of a wolf trap. Wolves become a nuisance during the winter as hunger forces them into the villages.

SKIU – SHINGO LA

Trek to Shingo La (3450m). It is an ascent up to Shingo La.

SHINGO LA – LARTSA

Trek to Lartsa, through Shingo la, also we can see the Zanskar view. DAY 13: LARTSA - YURUTSE After breakfast start a steep ascent towards Stok La (4800m). Enroute you can see the beautiful view of Stok Kangri which is at the altitude of 6130m. Then steep descends up to Rumbak village with few houses. From Rumbak again gently ascend up to Yurutse village. This beautiful village with only two houses is isolated from the other part of the valley. Overnight at Camp

YURUTSE – STOK LA

Trek to descend Stok-la 4900m, Steep ascend. Pass through the village, cross the River Bridge and escarpment. Go up the Right Bank, then the left bank to reach Stok-la.

STOK LA – DOKSAR

Morning after breakfast Trek to Doksar (4440m), enroute you will see different landscapes. We are heading downhill, there are some short climbs to do and so a full day of walking to reach our campsite in Doksar (3700m).

DOKSAR – BASE CAMP

Morning, trek the start towards base camp, we descend steadily along the Jingchan River. We get great views towards the Stock summit and the Stock Kangri (6121m).

17 BASE CAMP – SUMMIT – BASE CAMP

Summit day (Approx. 8-9 hours to base-camp). The route is not difficult but at this altitude, it will be strenuous. From the summit of Stok Kangri (6116m), we should see the Pamirs and Tibet. If it's warm enough we'll rest and recover some energy on top before descending to base-camp. Camp

BASE CAMP - STOK – DRIVE LEH

Morning after breakfast start walking for Stok which is about 5 to 6 hrs walking, enroute have lunch. On arrival at Stok, drive back to Leh by jeeps.

LEH – LAMAYURU – ALCHI

Drive Leh to Alchi, enroute visit Lamayuru, after exploring villages around the area, we visit Gompa completely overshadows the landscape which happens to be the most famous and spectacular monastery in Ladakh. Alchi Monasteries, these two monasteries are located near Saspol on the Srinagar- Leh road. The primary attraction of these monasteries is, however, their 1000-year old wall painting, which alone makes the visit a worthwhile experience.

ALCHI – LEH

Morning after breakfast drive Alchi to Leh, enroute visit Rizong Gompa. The Gompa belongs to the Gelukpa. After the visit, drive towards Leh.

LEH – DELHI

Departure early morning to Leh airport to catch flight to Delhi, on arrival Transfer to Airport to catch your onward journey flight.
